Trump Convicted: Can a Convicted Felon Run for President?

Former President's Felony Conviction Raises Questions

Is Trump's Political Career Over?

Now that a New York jury has convicted former President Donald Trump of all 34 felony charges of falsifying business records, the next obvious question is: Can a convicted felon run for president?

The answer is simply yes. A convicted or imprisoned felon can not only campaign for president and other federal offices but also be elected.

There is no requirement that the president be of good moral character or have a clean criminal record. In fact, convicted felons have run for president in the past. Lyndon LaRouche was convicted in 1988 of tax and mail fraud conspiracy and ran for president.
