Spanish great shows incredible resilience to overcome Zverev
Nadal battled through the pain of a foot injury to reach the final of the French Open on Friday, beating Alexander Zverev in a match that was suspended due to the German's injury.
The Spaniard, who is bidding for a record-extending 14th title at Roland Garros, won the first two sets 7-6 (8) and 6-6 (10-8) before play was stopped in the third set with Zverev leading 6-1.
Zverev had been struggling with an ankle injury and was clearly in pain, but he had fought back from a break down in the second set to level the match.
However, he was unable to continue after rolling his ankle again in the third set, and Nadal was awarded the victory.
Nadal will now face Casper Ruud in the final on Sunday. The Norwegian is the first player from his country to reach the final of a Grand Slam.
